John Oldham is killed by Native Americans on Block Island.

(July) Capt. Oldham’s body is discovered off Block Island by Capt. John Gallop, who was attempting to trade with the Native Americans there. Although Oldham had been sent to deliver an ultimatum to the Pequot Native Americans, he was killed by members of the Narragansett tribe.
